Guts' incredible ability allowed him to rise through the ranks extremely quickly, and he became the Raid Captain. His recklessness and constantly putting himself in harm's way left him beloved by many, but hated by a few, namely Casca.
Initially, Guts found himself unable to connect to his comrades. As the years went on, his guard was lowered, and he truly found a home within the Band of the Hawks.
